In lacquer, becoming visible is never the same as revealing everything.

LACQUER:

Blood before Gloss

Lacquer does not become clearer simply by being worked on. A colour may be painted, covered, left to disappear beneath another layer, then found again only after the surface is sanded back. What is hidden is not removed from the work, it waits inside it.

Lacquer begins from this reversal, not from the finished gloss, but from the stages in which the artist has to continue without seeing everything at once. Layers accumulate, memory replaces direct sight, and sanding gradually brings certain colours forward while leaving others beneath.

There is something familiar in that movement, especially in youth. Continuing before the outcome is fully visible, investing energy before certainty arrives, learning which parts should be carried forward and which can be left behind.
